Anti-Mask Law

Description: It is unlawful for an individual to willfully wear a mask, face covering, or any item intended to fully or partially conceal their face with the intent to obscure or hide their identity in public spaces. This law is designed to ensure accountability and prevent anonymity during criminal or suspicious activity.

Exemptions: This law does not apply to the following individuals acting in an official capacity:

  • Agents of the Secret Service

  • Agents of the U.S. Marshals Service

  • Active personnel in CID (Criminal Investigations Division), GIU (Gang Intelligence Unit), or IU (Intelligence Unit)

  • Military Personnel or National Guardsmen

Additionally, medical masks (e.g., those covering the nose and mouth for health reasons) are explicitly exempt.


Examples:

  • Wearing a ski mask in public with no lawful reason.

  • Donning a balaclava during a robbery or assault.

  • Using a Halloween or costume mask during the commission of a crime.
